2. Summary of the poem

     “The Village Blacksmith” is a tribute to the hardworking, humble man who earns his living                       through sweat and strength. Set in a small village, the poem paints the picture of a physically                  strong yet emotionally tender man — one who works under the chestnut tree, attends church, and            sheds a tear during his daughter’s singing.

      Longfellow’s words celebrate not just the blacksmith, but the dignity of honest labor. The poem              reflects values that were deeply respected in society: integrity, discipline, and devotion to family            and  faith.

     This poem is more than just a description — it's an inspiration, reminding us that true greatness                often  lies in the simplest lives lived with purpose.
